Just as a follow up to this issue,
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=238582 was resolved
by attaching a 80-wire IDE cable to the drive.
As I say in the ticket, it seems that the new SCSI->ATA stuff or the
DVD-ROM drive isn't respecting the mode of the cable.
