C-Media sound not working (most of the time)

Hi all,

for a while now (couple of months i think) I have the problem that my
soundcard does not work. On estimate 1 out of 10 boots it works, the
other 9 it doesn't.
When it doesn't I get the following in messages:

May 14 08:47:10 peecee kernel: cannot find the slot for index 0 (range 0-0), error: -16
May 14 08:47:10 peecee kernel: C-Media PCI: probe of 0000:04:08.0 failed with error -12

The audio controller is:
04:08.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738 (rev 10)

Does anybody have any idea what's going on? Any tips on how to
investigate this further?
