If you are getting that far then you can turn off "network" service
for a time beeing, boot (or just boot 'single'), and try to start
that from a command line and see what information you can collect.
You will have other terminal screens at this point, and you can turn
on SysRq keys, and bunch of other tools - starting with 'ps' - will
be available.
