gnome-settings-daemon - segfaults during start

I am still yet to reboot; installed debuginfo's as suggested by gdb; the 
machine has been idle for the rest of the day. But magically - connected 
again to the vnc server, and I find that the desktop has actually 
started, and has the gnome-settings-daemon warning.

Restarting vncserver has shown that it now actually starts the gui 
desktop up OK.

I have tried a gdb backtrace, but don't know if my method is legit:
