Anyone else seeing very large characters/low-resolution during boot?

Running recent rawhide kernels, my external monitor is reporting
running at 720x400 during boot (both text and plymouth).

Of course, I can force the resolution via 'vga=795' or 'vga=792', etc.
on the boot line, but .....

Something perculiar about my system (Thinkpad X60)?  Others?

[Sorry if this is 'old behavior'.  I just deleted a 'vga=791' option
that had lived in my grub.conf for years.....]
