Two wrinkles with f9

Recently I have been getting the following happening with F9:

1) The shutdown hangs at flushing iptables and I have to manually power off.

2) On startup and login to kde4 the splash screen stays on the screen around a
minute or so before disappearing. In the past it has only been a few seconds.

Anyone else seen these "features"?
