Fedora 9 had no modprobe.conf so I copied one from my Fedora 8 account
and added the suggested lines - that stopped clicking sounds!

Should that be added by default on all F9 installs with intelnhda audio chip?

Should I post a bug for this?

Here is my current modprobe.conf:

# cat /etc/modprobe.conf
# If you have the Intel 3945 wireless chipset, you may experience
trouble finding and associating with wireless networks in
NetworkManager
options iwl3945 disable_hw_scan=1
options snd cards_limit=8
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel index=0 model=hp-bpc
# stop clicking audio
options snd-card-0 index=0 power_save=0
options snd-hda-intel index=0 power_save=0
# alias snd-card-7 snd-usb-audio
# options snd-usb-audio index=7
