Ah, but if X freezes, or there's a keyboard and/or mouse issue--there
are a variety of places where it's useful, especially for a system that
boots into X by default.
I'm a bit surprised that it's an upstream decision. Folks, I know it's
the sort of thing that can send people into a rage, but if we start
insulting each other, that is the quickest way to close each other's
minds.
Maybe if we ask nicely, the Fedora developers can consider changing the
default.
