KDE 4.2 Disappearance

Start with a clean slate in plasma.  Remove ~/.kde/share/config/plasmarc and 
plasma-appletsrc.  They will be recreated.  I haven't had to do this since 
quite early days, but it's possible that something uncomfortable has made its 
way in there.

If you still have problems,

What graphics card?

driver?

Do you use Compiz?  (Hint - some do, but you can get most of it without, 
safer).

Doubtless we'll think of other questions as we go on.
