boot process debugging

Hi,

I've got some troubles booting system from USB stick on Asus EEE, 
it stops after touchpad detection ...

Please, how do I force the kernel to be more verbose about what 
is going on? - I've tried to add various parameters to kernel 
line in grub, but nothing helped, the verbosity is not increased 
by any of the following:

debug
loglevel=7
initcall_debug
