Mar 18 21:06:17 glezos	awesome
Mar 18 21:06:28 glezos	Let's get it going for some people to go to
sleep and some others to get back to work. :-)
Mar 18 21:06:29 pygi	hello folks
Mar 18 21:06:31 glezos	Agenda:
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-trans-list/2008-March/msg00076.html
Mar 18 21:06:33 glezos	Oops
Mar 18 21:06:41 glezos	Agenda:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N/Meetings#agenda
Mar 18 21:07:37 glezos	here's the summary from the previous meeting,
generated from kindly donated brain nerve activity from runa_b :
https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-trans-list/2008-March/msg00076.html
Mar 18 21:07:48 runa_b	:)
Mar 18 21:07:57 glezos	From the action items:
Mar 18 21:08:10 glezos	String freeze announcement was sent to
-devel-announce from me
Mar 18 21:08:28 glezos	MrTom did send the suggestions (almost all of
them were very good ones)
Mar 18 21:08:52 glezos	Rasther: How do you feel about them? Would you
like to get the ball rolling with them?
Mar 18 21:09:11 *	couf Bart Couvreur (nl)
Mar 18 21:10:33 glezos	FWIW, I can help out with some of them.
Mar 18 21:10:34 ln-	oh, i was here already.
Mar 18 21:10:34 Rasther	Good suggestions... And I would like to help
mainly with Tx i18n
Mar 18 21:11:11 glezos	Most of them require editing the
templates/view, so it's a low-hanging fruit for anyone who'd like to
help a bit with Transifex development
Mar 18 21:11:41 glezos	The last 2 actions were done, as runa pointed
out already.
Mar 18 21:11:51 glezos	we can talk a bit about FLSCo later on.
Mar 18 21:12:18 glezos	Anything else on these?
Mar 18 21:12:24 Rasther	glezos: I'll take a look on it...
Mar 18 21:12:34 glezos	Rasther: right on!
Mar 18 21:12:41 Rasther	about templates/view...
Mar 18 21:13:04 *	glezos has changed the topic to: Fedora Localization
Group meeting -- Agenda:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N/Meetings#agenda -- Topic:
Statistics, Transifex update
Mar 18 21:13:26 glezos	Lots of stuff on this front, there were some
major updates on FAS2 and the server Tx is running on
Mar 18 21:13:55 glezos	I was caught up with my job so I didn't have
time to make sure everything was working flawlessly
Mar 18 21:14:23 couf	general reminder for those how haven't done so:
change your FAS2 password or get locked out
Mar 18 21:14:35 couf	s/how/who
Mar 18 21:15:01 glezos	We know that if something breaks lots of people
can't do their jobs, so in the future we're aiming in more testing
Mar 18 21:15:15 glezos	Meanwhile, you can always keep your work on
your local computer and upload when things are working.
Mar 18 21:16:19 glezos	comments?
Mar 18 21:16:39 marek	none from me
Mar 18 21:17:13 glezos	great, since we've got a good discussion coming
about SCo and meeting time
Mar 18 21:17:17 *	glezos has changed the topic to: Fedora Localization
Group meeting -- Agenda:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N/Meetings#agenda -- Steering
committee formation
Mar 18 21:17:46 glezos	So, I'd really like everyone to provide as much
feedback as possible on the FLSCo ideas proposed. We NEED to have
consensus in this.
Mar 18 21:18:04 glezos	Here's the current idea:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N/SteeringCommittee
Mar 18 21:18:51 *	runa_b quite liked the FLSCo draft
Mar 18 21:19:10 *	marek likes it too, I don't see anything to change
Mar 18 21:19:21 *	couf posted notes to list
Mar 18 21:19:22 glezos	Q: 5 members or 7?
Mar 18 21:19:57 *	marek is for 5.
Mar 18 21:20:04 pygi	5
Mar 18 21:20:19 runa_b	glezos: how many members do we have in cvsl10n
Mar 18 21:20:39 marek	I was about to ask that :)
Mar 18 21:20:45 runa_b	:)
Mar 18 21:20:55 glezos	from my experience with FDSCo, 7 people are
quite a few. However, with 5 people you can have a majority with just
3 people, while with 7 you need 4 (a bit harder to make wrong
decisions)
Mar 18 21:21:02 glezos	We have ~400 people
Mar 18 21:21:14 runa_b	whoa...i'd say 7 then
Mar 18 21:21:20 marek	hm, you're right glezos
Mar 18 21:21:24 marek	we're a big group
Mar 18 21:21:30 couf	runa_b: +1
Mar 18 21:21:35 vpv	we may have 400 translators, but how many is in
these meetings, 7-8?
Mar 18 21:21:37 marek	let's go for 7
Mar 18 21:21:37 glezos	Let's see, how many show up in meetnigs?
Mar 18 21:22:09 glezos	oops, sorry, 280
Mar 18 21:22:30 runa_b	glezos: vpv: well things like meetings tend to
be a little irregular in loosely structured groups..
Mar 18 21:22:52 runa_b	but with a Sco in place it'll become more of a
standard practice
Mar 18 21:22:53 glezos	cvsl10n has 280 members, not 400.
Mar 18 21:23:11 glezos	runa_b: +1
Mar 18 21:23:15 runa_b	glezos: i'd still stay with 7
Mar 18 21:23:31 marek	+1
Mar 18 21:23:31 couf	yeah, FDSCo is doing 7 with half the members in cvsdocs
Mar 18 21:23:33 glezos	I lean more towards 7 as well.
Mar 18 21:23:46 glezos	stickster: ping
Mar 18 21:23:51 *	noriko votes to 7
Mar 18 21:24:41 Rasther	maybe 7 (for 4 majority) is a good number...
Mar 18 21:24:51 glezos	awesome.
Mar 18 21:25:00 couf	decision: 7 members
Mar 18 21:25:08 glezos	Yesterday I created the Elections page:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N/SteeringCommittee/Elections
Mar 18 21:25:14 *	Southern_Gentlem
(n=notfred unaffiliated/southerngentlem/x-2894754) has left
#fedora-meeting ("Leaving")
Mar 18 21:25:31 glezos	So all, please subscribe to
L10N/SteeringCommittee/* on your wiki preferences page
Mar 18 21:25:38 glezos	to get notified for changes
Mar 18 21:26:10 glezos	one important thing to notice there is the
following, taken from FDSCo: The four top vote receivers serve on
FLSCo for 12 months, the next three vote receivers serve for 6 months.
Mar 18 21:27:21 couf	hang on: that was a FDSCo decision to get it on
track, do we want that for this project?
Mar 18 21:27:50 glezos	couf: yeah, that's something I'd like your input
Mar 18 21:27:51 runa_b	glezos: we would require frequent elections if
we follow that method
Mar 18 21:28:29 glezos	runa_b: do you think doing elections with every
release (6 months) is overkill?
Mar 18 21:28:38 *	runa_b thinks so
Mar 18 21:28:40 couf	I'd go with the new route: elections every six
months, and the only guy that stays is the chair (appointed for 12
months)
Mar 18 21:29:11 Rasther	couf: +1
Mar 18 21:29:12 runa_b	instead of months/years.. can we go for releases
Mar 18 21:29:18 glezos	runa_b: yes, that's the idea
Mar 18 21:29:27 couf	runa_b: that's basiclly the same :-)
Mar 18 21:29:28 marek	or the opposite, 12 months for elections and
select the guy in chair for 6 months only?
Mar 18 21:29:43 marek	ie, 2 guys from selected team
Mar 18 21:30:04 vpv	I think 6 months should be fine. After all, if the
community wants to keep someone and that person wants to continue,
she/he can re-run...
Mar 18 21:30:19 glezos	the question here is whether we need a 6-month
election cycle. Do we have enough people to justify a re-nomination
and re-election every release?
Mar 18 21:30:22 marek	:) I think glezos will be in the chair for years ;)
Mar 18 21:30:23 couf	was thinking about continuitiy and making it
possible for newcomers to join in frequently
Mar 18 21:30:32 *	abadger1999 has quit (Connection timed out)
Mar 18 21:30:40 runa_b	we might need a little stability in the initial phase
Mar 18 21:31:01 runa_b	i'd say ...go for 2 releases (12 months) for
the entire Sco
Mar 18 21:31:04 Rasther	an election for release is a good number
Mar 18 21:31:19 noriko	6 months may lower the bar for new comers ?
Mar 18 21:31:23 marek	hm, I would go for 2 releases as well
Mar 18 21:31:45 marek	noriko: they can be still active
Mar 18 21:32:01 vpv	noriko: I think so too, or people who are afraid
of being too busy in the longer future
Mar 18 21:32:09 marek	hmm
Mar 18 21:32:12 couf	or go with the original proposal: 4 members 12
months, 3 members 6 months, election for the 3 seats, next election:
the whole board
Mar 18 21:32:26 marek	couf: that's the best I think
Mar 18 21:32:31 runa_b	couf: +1
Mar 18 21:32:35 couf	that gives stability in the beginning + allowing
fresh blood enter
Mar 18 21:32:41 runa_b	yup..
Mar 18 21:32:57 couf	from then on every release: new board
Mar 18 21:33:15 couf	and let the power to FLSCo to change if they
think it ought to be different
Mar 18 21:33:35 runa_b	yeah. that would be best.
Mar 18 21:33:57 glezos	I think that having the chance to get on board
new people that are very active every 6 months is a good thing. But
having everyone to re-nominate and everything is probably a waste of
time, since the people that are devoted to the project are pretty
clear.
Mar 18 21:34:31 vpv	If we take the 4, 12 + 3, 6 approach, then the
people running won't get to decide how long they are in the Sco,
though
Mar 18 21:34:52 glezos	vpv: every person has the right to say "I'll
serve only for 6 months"/.
Mar 18 21:35:04 couf	vpv: they can re-nominate themselves
Mar 18 21:35:30 vpv	ok
Mar 18 21:36:24 glezos	So, 7 people get elected: the 4 most popular
can serve for 12 months, the rest will have the chance to re-nominate
themselves in 6 months, together with the rest of the people who'd
like to get active with the FLSCo
Mar 18 21:36:40 marek	glezos: +1, that's it
Mar 18 21:36:41 glezos	Who's +1, -1, and 0?
Mar 18 21:36:44 couf	+1
Mar 18 21:36:47 runa_b	+1
Mar 18 21:36:58 vpv	+1, with "can serve for 12 months"
Mar 18 21:36:58 Rasther	+1
Mar 18 21:37:25 couf	yeah the "can serve" distinction is important
Mar 18 21:37:51 glezos	"Each member commits to a minimum of one or two
full release cycles of active duty on the committee. Active members
need to attend meetings to remain active."
Mar 18 21:38:16 glezos	ok, we might need to clearly mention this in
the charter anyway.
Mar 18 21:38:26 glezos	noriko: what do you think?
Mar 18 21:39:05 noriko	yp. +1
Mar 18 21:39:21 glezos	awesome.
Mar 18 21:39:33 glezos	Next Q about FLSCo: When are we having the elections?
Mar 18 21:39:52 marek	shortly after the release?
Mar 18 21:39:52 glezos	http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/9/Schedule
Mar 18 21:39:56 Rasther	after F9 Release
Mar 18 21:40:04 *	madmetal_spyros
(n=madmetal ppp089210041242 dsl hol gr) has joined #fedora-meeting
Mar 18 21:40:10 couf	or after trans freeze?
Mar 18 21:40:19 runa_b	glezos: btw.. is this decision final or do we
need further discussions on the mailing list
Mar 18 21:40:34 Rasther	couf: maybe be a good idea
Mar 18 21:41:01 glezos	How about starting the nomination period (7-10
days) on April 10
Mar 18 21:41:12 glezos	And the elections on April 20?
Mar 18 21:41:37 glezos	Or is this going to get too smudged with the
release process?
Mar 18 21:41:56 marek	I think we should elect after release, with clear head.
Mar 18 21:41:57 runa_b	i'd say wait until the release, +1 to marek
Mar 18 21:42:30 *	abadger1999
(n=abadger1 conference/pycon/x-a4f41af8539451de) has joined
#fedora-meeting
Mar 18 21:42:38 vpv	I think so too, especially with RC1 shipping on the 22nd
Mar 18 21:43:01 Rasther	we need a period to elections as well, no?
Mar 18 21:43:11 glezos	we need 1 week for nominations and 1 week for elections.
Mar 18 21:43:28 Rasther	ah, ok!
Mar 18 21:44:51 glezos	The release takes place on 29/4, and it might slip
Mar 18 21:44:51 couf	nominaties: 7-13 April, 14 - 20 elections?
Mar 18 21:45:05 glezos	That's 1.5 month from now.
Mar 18 21:46:21 glezos	Is there any reason not to go for it like couf
suggests? What needs to be done? Write a nomination and in a week
login to the vote system and spend 5 seconds clicking.
Mar 18 21:46:33 *	bpepple|lt has quit ("Ex-Chat")
Mar 18 21:48:23 runa_b	glezos: thats 1 month from now
Mar 18 21:48:47 runa_b	can we delay it by a week...
Mar 18 21:49:15 runa_b	14-20 nominations, 21-27 elections?
Mar 18 21:49:21 Rasther	runa_b: why?
Mar 18 21:49:54 glezos	runa_b: the release takes place on 29/4. If we
delay it, then we'll need to start the nomination period after 29/4
Mar 18 21:50:00 runa_b	Rasther: not sure.. but perhaps it might be
better to have a little buffer on the drum-beating period
Mar 18 21:50:10 runa_b	not everyone is aware of the new Sco just yet
Mar 18 21:50:20 glezos	okey
Mar 18 21:50:24 couf	runa_b: we'd be close to release
Mar 18 21:50:38 couf	and that would mean infra freeze, as in no-go
Mar 18 21:50:39 runa_b	when is translation freeze?
Mar 18 21:50:50 couf	7 April
Mar 18 21:51:07 *	No5251
(n=No5251 dslb-084-057-187-156 pools arcor-ip net) has joined
#fedora-meeting
Mar 18 21:51:09 runa_b	oh.. /me did not know about the infra-freeze limitations
Mar 18 21:51:52 glezos	OK. Since there is no clear consensus, I
suggest to do it the right way then.
Mar 18 21:51:58 glezos	After release, that is.
Mar 18 21:52:15 glezos	We can use the time to blog about it
Mar 18 21:52:16 runa_b	hmm.. in that case couf's suggestion sounds
doable...we might just need to pump up the noise about the elections
Mar 18 21:52:54 glezos	runa_b: +1 on both points. If we all blog about
it, then people will learn about it
Mar 18 21:53:12 glezos	And also, we could have an email sent to all
cvsl10n-members letting them know.
Mar 18 21:53:49 Rasther	so, +1 for couf proposal
Mar 18 21:53:59 runa_b	what do the others think?
Mar 18 21:54:56 noriko	+1 for couf
Mar 18 21:55:00 marek	I'm also for it. +1
Mar 18 21:55:08 vpv	it's a bit early, but then again why not, +1
Mar 18 21:55:16 *	glezos raises couf to his shoulders
Mar 18 21:55:21 glezos	go go couf
Mar 18 21:55:35 couf	heh
Mar 18 21:55:39 marek	:)
Mar 18 21:55:54 *	GeroldKa (n=GeroldKa fedora/geroldka) has joined
#fedora-meeting
Mar 18 21:56:01 runa_b	:)
Mar 18 21:56:09 glezos	ok, since there are no objections, we can go for it.
Mar 18 21:56:11 Rasther	k
Mar 18 21:56:14 glezos	I'm +1 for couf, FWIW
Mar 18 21:56:43 glezos	So, action item for everyone: Make sure the SCo
pages are read by as many eyes as possible and corrected
Mar 18 21:56:50 glezos	Blog about the upcoming elections
Mar 18 21:57:05 glezos	and someone to send an email to the list with
the proposed dates.
Mar 18 21:57:40 *	glezos ducks
Mar 18 21:57:54 couf	ow well, I'll do it
Mar 18 21:58:00 runa_b	:)
Mar 18 21:58:04 glezos	okey.
Mar 18 21:58:05 glezos	Next topic?

Mar 18 21:59:04 glezos	0
Mar 18 21:59:13 glezos	(0 = don't mind)
Mar 18 21:59:53 glezos	Um, I should probably make that more clear:
Let's all vote for the proposal for meetings to take place at 11 UTC.
:)
Mar 18 22:00:12 marek	:)
Mar 18 22:00:14 marek	0
Mar 18 22:00:14 runa_b	well.. atleast the next one.. we could see how
it works out
Mar 18 22:00:29 marek	+1 for the next one, 0 for permanent change
Mar 18 22:00:37 glezos	+1 for the next one, 0 for permanent change

Mar 18 22:01:27 marek	:)
Mar 18 22:02:08 glezos	noriko: I'm pretty sure you're a strong +1 for it...? :)
Mar 18 22:02:21 glezos	Rasther: ?
Mar 18 22:02:24 noriko	glezos, :-)
Mar 18 22:02:40 Rasther	usually on 8:00AM i'm on the street going to the job,
Mar 18 22:02:59 Rasther	but I can try it
Mar 18 22:03:30 glezos	Rasther: would you prefer 1 hour earlier?

Mar 18 22:07:44 Rasther	glezos: okz
Mar 18 22:07:51 runa_b	pygi: please go ahead :)
Mar 18 22:08:01 pygi	runa_b, you sure you don't want first?
Mar 18 22:08:04 pygi	with FWN?
Mar 18 22:08:09 runa_b	pygi: no worries..
Mar 18 22:08:24 pygi	ok, so basically glagolitsa in it's current form
is just an idea
Mar 18 22:08:50 pygi	it's web translation service, very much similar
to Rosetta, and it's supposed to be written using Turbogears
Mar 18 22:09:01 pygi	to be in conjunction with other Fedora
infrastructure elements
Mar 18 22:09:31 pygi	It's initial phase (the one that is subject to
SoC) should include:
Mar 18 22:10:06 pygi	Projects registration, ability to do translations
on registered projects/versions, groups management, download
translations as po, and similar things required for basic operation
Mar 18 22:10:55 pygi	it would be modeled in a way to support further
growth, including for example a plugin that might be written later to
support language packs for every app fedora has in repos
Mar 18 22:11:15 *	bashohII has quit ("夢よりも現の鷹ぞ頼もしき")
Mar 18 22:11:16 pygi	(that's subject to discussion with other fedora
comities and stuff, anyway)
Mar 18 22:11:35 *	pygi thinks that's enough for now, now you ask questions :)
Mar 18 22:11:45 glezos	pygi: sounds like a good set of ideas, we could
maybe discuss them after the meeting in #fedora-l10n.
Mar 18 22:12:10 glezos	we would definitely like to have GSoC projects
working on L10n engineering!
Mar 18 22:13:17 glezos	my concerns is how it will integrate with the
rest of our tools, but if noone has anything else to comment on this,
maybe we should go on to runa and close the meeting for now.
Mar 18 22:14:04 pygi	glezos, it's meant to be a tool used by everyone,
with eventually fedora-specific plugins written
Mar 18 22:15:27 glezos	pygi: sounds great, especially if you re-use
the work of other tools (Pootle, DL, Translate toolkit, Transifex)
Mar 18 22:15:43 glezos	runa_b: would you like to go on with FWN? It's
getting pretty late.
Mar 18 22:15:51 runa_b	:)
Mar 18 22:16:49 runa_b	well.. last meeting it was proposed that we
contribute to FWN every fortnight

Mar 18 22:19:44 runa_b	for the elections
Mar 18 22:19:47 glezos	runa_b: it would be fantastic if you could work on this..
Mar 18 22:20:17 runa_b	i don't mind as long as I can afford to allot time
Mar 18 22:20:40 marek	well, I think Thomas is monitoring announce-list
and the message about elections will land there...
Mar 18 22:21:30 runa_b	ok.. perhaps we can continue about this on the
mailing list
Mar 18 22:21:51 glezos	runa_b: I'm sure if you can't do a week's FWN,
sending an email to -trans-list could trigger me or couf jumping right
in.
