Alan identified a few issues he'd like to see resolved before including the
aacraid driver in the 2.2 stock kernel. Adaptec is addressing those issues
as we speak. After that point, Adaptec will also be forward-porting the
driver to the 2.4 kernel. Dell and Adaptec's goal is to have a solid
open-source driver in the stock kernels.
FWIW, the aacraid driver present in RHL7 has had hundreds of hours of
extreme stress testing, and we feel confident in it. Alan was thorough and
uncovered several things which need to be fixed, but we think it's very
usable. Having this driver as part of the standard Red Hat offering makes
choosing Dell PowerEdge servers an even better option. (and no, I'm not
biased. Getting that driver to an open-source state has been my #1 priority
for the past year.) ;-)
