Naturally, this varies by type of chipset. For example, ATI is paying
Precision Insight to provide 2d and 3d support for thier desktop and
laptop chips.
Also, the SVGA server is accelerated, including many laptop chipsets.
Perhaps you're thinking of the fbdev support, which is often used as a
last-ditch on unsupported cards, and is unaccelerated.
