Re: D-link NIC

| Has anyone seen the message "something wicked has happened". This is with
| the D-Link 530 NIC using Redhat 6.2 or 7.0. With 7.0 this problem seems to
| appear more often. When we change the card to an Intel NIC, the problem
| goes away. Any ideas?

I happen to know something about this, even though I decided not to
buy these cards. I was reading Donald Becker's web pages to get an
idea whether the VIA Rhine chips were any good (I decided that
Tulips are better (than one:-)). This message is mentioned on the
page:

	http://www.scyld.com/network/ethercard.html
under the heading "Via Rhine".

Becker is the original author of many of the ethernet drivers. There
is a complicated impedence mismatch (to be polite) between him and
Linus, so that the official maintainers are now generally others. You
may or may not find his versions work better for you.

BTW, your board must be a DFE-530, not a DE-530 (which uses the
Tulip). I love these distinctive names.
