there's a keystroke (i believe CTRL-x) which will drop you to a
text-based prompt.
from there you can give the runlevel on the command line:
EX:
LILO: linux 1
i don't wanna reboot right now, so i can't check the details.
you can remove the semi-graphical lilo prompt by commenting out the
"message=/boot/message" line in /etc/lilo.conf and running /sbin/lilo.
