A couple of things to check-  Do you have the reverse DNS configured
correctly for this new server?  Could be that the reverse DNS is taking a
while to timeout, which makes telnet and sendmail take a long time to do
their thing..

Do you have a route on this box for your internal network?  If not, this
box is going to send all packets not it's local subnet to your default
gateway.

This is indeed your ISP's router (actually its serial
interface on a large router at UUNET) which is sending you a message that
this network is not reachable.  My "guess" is that- you are using private
IP addresses for your internal network (and you should be) chances are you
are just missing the route to your internal network.
