I've similar problems sometimes with training machines.
Yesterday I tested 2 machines with /etc/hosts (both of them) and the same
problem (long time to connect for telnet/ftp).
I double-checked the following:
IPs: 10.10.3.30 and 10.10.3.32
network: 10.10.3.0/255.255.255.0 (both machines)
ping response times: <1 ms (using names, tested from both machines)
ipchains -L : no rules (both machines)
/etc/hosts.allow & /etc/hosts.deny : no rules (both machines)
/etc/inetd.conf allows telnet & ftp in both machines
I wonder what's happening... because ping response times are OK.
Any suggestions welcome!
Thank you in advance and best regards
Miguel Dilaj
