Re: RAID with IDE-disks ?



I would recommend getting away from the software RAID if possible (backup your files and start anew).  It's so much trouble and so little benefit.

But, I have configured software RAID successfully with kernel 2.2.16.  You need to get the raidtools kernel patch from the current maintainer.  I can't remember his name right now, but he works at RedHat, and the patches are located on his webspace on the RedHat server.  Search through the linux-kernel mailing list archives for raidtools, and you'll find the info.

There are a number of things that you have to enable in the kernel (make menuconfig) to enable it, but I'm not in a place where I can remember them.  I've got notes down, but I'm not with them.
