I use this idebus=66 line also because the kernel(?) tells you to do so
during bootup.  With the new 2.4 kernel it started mentioning idebus speed
and assumes 33Mhz, at least on my system, so I force it to use the ATA66
using that boot parameter.  I'm not saying I know anything special, just
going by the message displayed on bootup if this boot parameter is not
used on my hardware.  I'm sure John experienced the same.

I added the ide0=ata66 line after reading John's message, but I don't
think that did anything different for me.
