RE: Pentium 4 status

I have installed RH 6.2 on several P IV systems, although it was via
kickstart with the updated rpmrc file. You can change this file on the CD
and burn another copy, or install 6.2 on the hard drive of another machine,
change the file, and transfer it to the P IV.

P.S. I did make a new rpm-3.0.5 rpm package with these changes if anyone
needs it.

6.2 will not (and probably never will) install on a P-IV because the chip
identifies itself as an "if86" (where f means 15, or "1 before 5" or "IV")
and the anaconda installer chokes on it. I believe this has been worked
around for 7.0 as it definitely does work on it.

My personal opinion, and not necessarily Red Hat's, is to get the
better-faster-cheaper AMD Athlon, however. I just can't wait for the SMP
Athlons.
