Please, instead of telling us what you see, show us what the computer says,
like this:
summer@dugite tmp]$ ls -l
total 176
-rw-r--r-- 1 summer summer 1192 May 16 2000 deny.www~
drwxrwxr-x 3 summer summer 4096 Nov 27 19:17 emu
-rw-r--r-- 1 summer summer 1153 Jun 17 2000 index.html~
-rw-r--r-- 1 summer summer 2674 Jan 28 19:21 ix.html~
-rwxr-xr-x 1 summer summer 138005 Nov 28 1999 junk
-rw-rw-rw- 1 summer summer 1033 May 31 2000 lilo.conf~
-rw-rw-r-- 1 summer summer 10063 Aug 17 2000 rep.html
drwxrwxr-x 4 summer summer 4096 Nov 30 18:11 tn3270
[summer@dugite tmp]$
