The kernel-source is what you need to rebuild a kernel.
Are you having problems? Did you rebuild the kernel, or do a make modules
(and modules_install)?
What errors are you getting? What package are you installing? Where did
you get it from?

What are the requirements needed on the system to build the kernel. I an
trying to install a modem board (Equinox) and the RPM is trying to create a
device (/dev/enq).
I am told that if I have everything I need to create a kernel, I sould be
able to create the device.
