What does df give? What is in your lilo.conf?
I solved this with cfdisk + lilo.
Also, I have added a CPU but I guess I have to make the OS aware of it
somehow since it does not show in /proc/cpuinfo.
Do I have to recompile the kernel or is this configurable?
If I must recompile, how do I do this to enable both CPU: s?
You can just upgrade to an smp kernel (which has support for your
dual-processors). Take a look at the errata, and find the kernel updates.
This will have instructions for installing the new kernel. You can rebuild
your own kernel, but using the pre-built rpms should be easier for you.
OK
Also, should I use the 2.4 kernel instead of the kernel included?
If this is the case what other modules do I first need to update to make it
work?
It is your choice. The 2.4 kernel has better support for USB, among other
things, so you may want to repost with more information as to what kinds of
things that you want to do.
What more things?
Since this is a dedicated server, better support for 3D graphics, audio, USB
and
such things are not really necessary I think.
Also I heard that gcc 2.96 that is shipped with RedHat 7.0 is a nonstable
release (?) and that it would be impossible to recompile the kernel with
this version anyway.
Is this true and if so how do I "degrade" my gcc version?
Check out www.redhat.com/support/errata. This will give you information
about all of the updates available. gcc is under Version 7.0 (Guinness)-->
Bug fixes--> 2000-12-19. The all should have information about how to
upgrade the packages. Especially `difficult' is the kernel and glibc. You
can also use up2date to get the majority of the updates.
Thanks. Also been told kgcc should work.
Also, when (if?) I get this working, is it possible to dedicate one of the
CPU: s to a specific process?
Yes, you can, but I cannot remember the details right off hand. I have some
friends who run setiathome on dual-processor machines, and they have two
instances running, one for each processor.
There are different opinions among you about if this is possibel or not.
Do you know where I can find more information about this?
Also I got Samba and Apache working perfectly but the linuxconf web
interface does not.
You may have to run linuxconf and look under
Config-->Networking-->Misc-->Linuxconf network access. Add in the IP number
(or range) of the computers that you want to allow access (It will still ask
for a user/pass).
Now I come to the first page "Welcome to linuxconf...." but no links on this
page works.
Also, how do I set the Interface NIC to 100Mb - full duplex?
You can add this into /etc/conf.modules. I believe that you would need to
change or add the alias/options line:
alias eth0 e100
options e100_speed_duplex=4
I am guessing that this will work, but I have never tried it as all of my
eepro100s auto-negotiate just fine.
I will try that and thank you for taking your time to answer my questions.
