This sounds like a bug that bit me. it DID ask me, and I said "no" (I was
installing on the second HDD and suspected it would do the wrong thing) \.
It did the wrong thing (wrote the MBR on the first disk ensuring I couldn't
boot anything) anyway.

This puts lilo in the MBR of the drive hde.
boot=/dev/hde
#VGA=773
This puts it into partition 3 on drive hdb.
boot=/dev/hdb3
