using multiple IP addresses?

Can someone point me to documentation about, or offer an example of,
using the Red Hat 7.0 startup scripts to configure a system with a
single Ethernet connection to listen on multiple IP addresses (as one
might use for IP-based virtual hosts of various services).

I've found discussion of how to do it for Linux in general, and I can
see that the script /etc/init.d/network and scripts in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts seem to be responsible.

But I don't understand them well enought to see how to change the
configuration to do what I want.
