up2date anonymous server functionality is no longer available



Running "up2date -l" on a system registered with "up2date -r".
now says:
There was a fatal error communicating with the server. The message was:

ERROR:
       The anonymous server functionality is no longer available.

       Please re-register this system by running rhn_register as root.
       Login at http://www.redhat.com/network, click Your Network tab,
       then Assign Service Levels and enable this service on your newly
       registered system.

INFO: N/A

          An error has occured while processing your request. If this problem
          persists please submit a bug report to rhn-help@redhat.com.
          If you choose to submit the bug report, please be sure to include
          details of what were you trying to do when this error occured and
          details on how to reproduce this problem.

Note the prior posting below.


"Always" seems to mean about 6 months in this context.

It's not that I think that paying for support is a bad business
model, but it's been hard enough to find out the long-term costs and
benefits of "Red Hat Network" that I couldn't convince my boss and
coworkers it was worth it.

The Red Hat Network has a free level of service that allows you to
download and instal updates.  Just use the "anonymous" registration
through the GUI or commandline:

up2date -r -l

to list the updates that apply to your system, then:

up2date -r [list the packages you want do download here]

a future version of the command line interface will allow:

"up2date -r -u" which will download and install all the updated
package that apply to your system.

This level will always be free.
