Being a former Amiga user, I can see where you're coming from.
Fortunately, Linux should prove much more resilient to any company
abandoning it, since even if that does happen, we won't be stuck with
useless binaries.

I've been using much of the same software for seven years now.  That's
_really_ empowering, not having to constantly relearn crap, and
knowing it won't go away.
