It's to allow the analog parts of audio and modems to be
loacted off the motherboard. Supposed to allow fro
easier/cheaper design of motherboards with built in audio
and/or modems. It would be a HSP modem (aka Winmodem)
and the audio uses AC97 connections.

I've heard modem boards exist, but never seen mention
of one with audio too. Most AMR cards are sold to OEMs
for use in low-budget systems. Never seen a place
selling the AMR cards or motherboards that include an AMR
card.
