cd sound problem

i am using red hat 7.0.  i have a soundblaster live! card.  sndconfig
"finds" the card, the emu10k1 module is installed in /etc/module.conf,
and realplayer plays fine.  yet, while my i can read data cd-roms, and
i can play audio cd-roms through wind-doze, linux "plays" but does not
produce sound for audio cd's.

where might i start troubleshooting this cd sound problem?
