If you did want to mount it, you would have to "modprobe vfat" and then
the kernel would support it.  (At least with the stock kernels...)

Now, if you just want to re-format is as a Linux partition, you can use
fdisk or cfdisk to change the partition type to type 83, and then run
mke2fs on it for format it.  You can then create a mount point for it,
and mount it.  If you want it to mount at boot, you have to create an
entry for it in /etc/fstab.
