Before you start worring about being able to relay messages through the
mail server, you realy should bet it listening to mail from the outside
world.  After you get that working, then you make sure you can send mail
from the machine running sendmail to the outside world.  Once you are
that far, then you open up the machine so you can send messages from
other machines on the local network through this mail server.

If you do not get the basics working first, it is hard to tell where the
trouble is.
