RE: [K12OSN] why 2 netcards on the LTS?

There are three reasons for it I can think of.

1) You might be running another DHCP server. We are (A MS one :/). Now
what happens if your thin client picks up that one for its DHCP? It
will get an IP and then just SIT THERE doing nothing, more than likely
(I guess you could set the non-LTS DHCP server to say where to get the
the appropriate files or refuse too talk to it, but maintaining that
could be a chore). By putting the thin clients on their own private
LAN, where they can only talk to your LTS' DHCP server, you remove that
issue.

Now if all were right in the universe, we would have had 100% foresight
when we were implementing our Ethernet networks 8 or more years ago.
Unfortunately sometimes we are limited in that regard and now it would
be too costly (Mostly time-wise) to change everything (Especially if it
is 'just' for LTS).

2) Network traffic. The thin clients are basically being told over the
network everything they are rendering on the screen. Now for one thin
client that might not be bad. Add 8, 12 or 30 or something and well
that could get a bit bad for some people on 10 Megabit only networks.
Then add traffic from use (People using the web etc).

3) Now take #2 and it could also be bad for networks where there is
already some congestion or potential for it. We have at least 275
Windows workstations in labs in one building, plus computers on peoples
desks. They are usually in some kind of use (using the web, email,
doing "whatever"). Why start pushing potential limits?
