Hello,
We are trying to use Linux to copy 20 workstations configurations (at
the moment they are Windows NTFS systems (eventually we plan to make
these systems dual boot, but first we have to figure out how to properly
secure the Windows side so that student can run some specialty
software).
In any case, we boot a computer with the following configuration:
/dev/hda --> Linux
/dev/hdb --> Windows system to be copied
/dev/hdc --> blank HD
/dev/hdd --> CD-R
On boot up the BIOS properly recognizes all IDE drives & mounts the
Linux partitions properly (RH7.2 Linux runs nicely -- even on these
older Celerons).
When we try to copy the HDs with the command:
[root]# dd if=/dev/hdb of=/dev/hdc bs=4096k
dd: opening `/dev/hdb': No such device or address
Any ideas?
PS -- this command works fine copying normal files, so I assume I am
doing something wrong. (I am pretty sure that one doesn't need to mount
a device to copy it, but again I could be wrong.
Thanks in advance,
Bill
