Re: [K12OSN] [K12os] HOD access

Dear Folks,
this may seem off topic, but ... I have to allow many users to
connect to external ibm mainframes by hod - host-on-demand. this is a java
based product running on ibm iron that allows secure connect and ibm
terminal emulation (among other things). ibm insists on loading their
version of jre, which i did, but i still get errors from applet, namely
"unable to create jar cache in /tmp directory ...". bogus error, since
/tmp is mod 777, but the applet doesn't work. ibm is no help at all, i
can't even read tech support database documents without having a paid
software contract. the supplier whose computers i access doesn't care and
is clueless. do any of you have ideas how to deal with it? if i don't get
it solved, i'll have to give the people affected windoze machines, since
the stuff works fine on them. this would be tragic. thanks, julius

Julius, I couldn't find a match for the problem you describe.

I did find the redbook SG24-6182 "IBM Host Access Client Package" at http://www.redbooks.ibm.com

There is a chapter on Problem Determination that may be of use. You don't mention what OS you are running host-on-demand on.What version of Host-on-Demand or what level of Java you are running.

What are the clients? Are they Java enabled browsers on windows? What about the linux browser?

Appendix D "Netscape 6.0 and Java2-enabled Web browser issues" from the "IBM Websphere Host On-Demand Version 6.0 Getting Started" from http://www-1.ibm.com/support/manager.wss?rs=132&rt=0&org=SW&doc=7000585 may also have a few things it be useful for you to check out.

There is also a newsgroup ibm.software.hostondemand which I found in google groups which may be able to help you more than this group.

Hmmm... After browsing it for a while I have found the following. Again doesn't look directly related. But shows that *someone* has got it running on linux client.

===== snip =======
does anybody got HOD 6.0 working on Linux. I tried running it using
Netscape 6.2, but after login a got a directory listing of the HOD
directory on my web server.
