Re: [K12OSN] Re: network issues

Julius,

One problem is that we has standardised on 3Com905 cards, but these seem to have a problem with KUDZU, can I simply add the 3com drive in the alias ?

My etc/modules.conf file has;

alias eth1 8139too
alias eth0 8139too

Could that be the source of the problem ? The two cards are different
but may have the same driver.....

SMC2-1211TX connected to a cable-modem for internet (DHCP) eth1
RTL-8139 local lan (Static) eth0

The RTL card uses a SMC 8139 chip as does the SMC2 .....

What happens is I remove the alias ?

Norbert,
this very well *might* be the root of the problem. Would you
happen to have another network card with a different chipset? I'd remove
the SMC card and pt something else in its place. You could also delete the
cards in neat and see what kudzu does about it. if kudzu fails, delete
again and add them by hand, but try another card if you can, this will
make life much easier (at least it will make modules.conf more readable)
removing aliases is not a good idea, as they actually bind real
hardware to logical interfaces.
