Re: [K12OSN] Internet Filtering Costs

Sorry for my ignorance, but I presume that E-Smith is also open source and freely available?

Whoa...

I am on a dual 900 P III with SCSI, and 2 gig of ram. We are using E-Smith 5.6.

Squid/Squidguard chokes for after 45 minutes or so when the load is high.

Clearing the cache and restarting will "fix" it.

We tried DansGuardian on a test machine and it bogs down too.

Hi,

Anyone care to OS share internet filter experience with me? I'd love to
be able to suggest OS for our new filter.

I happily use dansguardian with squid on red hat 8 on a celeron 533 machine with 384 Mb RAM. I downloaded the blacklists once and have only used weighted phrases (from the lists I can download) as my main source. I use webmin and the dg webmin module to administer it remotely.

It's great and free and fast!
