Re: [K12OSN] Internet Filtering Costs

For my home network, I use IPCop (www.ipcop.org), and have installed DansGuardian on to it with the addonz system (http://www.dageek.co.uk/ipcop/addonz/). I'm running this on a P-133 with 128 MB RAM. I was originally running it with 16 MB RAM, but found it was better to have more ran for Squid. :)

It works VERY well for my ADSL connection. Have downloaded at combined speeds of 450+k/sec. This was also compressed files! :)

So, IMHO, a 533 is overkill.

I happily use dansguardian with squid on red hat 8
on a celeron 533 machine with 384 Mb RAM. I
downloaded the blacklists once and have only used
weighted phrases (from the lists I can download)
as my main source. I use webmin and the dg webmin
module to administer it remotely.

It's great and free and fast!
