Good point Eric - I believe that happened in the minihub loopback situation I described. While that would be evidence that a network problem exists, actually testing the cables will do a better job of convincing everyone that the problem is the wiring plant (and not, for example, the fact that Jim installed Linux on the network, which I could see some claiming...).
