Hey,
In order to attach a signature with netscape mail I have to choose a

What kind of file does it need? .txt?
I have never been able to figure this out...

It needs a file which contains text, but the name does not matter.
So use your favorite text editor (not something which creates formatted
documents like OO) to create a file, probably under your home or
~/.mozilla/ and place in it just what you would have typed for an email
signature. Then configure mozilla to use that file. Mozilla adds the
-- line before your signature.
I recommend keeping it simple. Large signatures are usually considered
a nuisance by the recipient, particularly if you participate in email lists.
