I just finished loading 4.0 on another box and have the same problem
consistently with Gcompris. I am able to click an activity menu and that
is about it. I last for about 10 seconds on the box in that program.
First box:
Dual 866 PIII
2GB DDR Ram
120GB IDE ATA 100 drive
4 channel IDE onboard RAID controller
Dual Head AGP 64MB GeForce MX 440 SE Aslylum Video Card
Second box:
Dual 333 PIII
386 MB SDRAM PC133
15GB IDE ATA 100 drive
Onboard IDE channel master drive
PCI Matrox Millenium Video card 16MB
Both boxes the OS maintains stable, but the program crashes and no error
messages result. And this is on the server itself, I haven't gotten a
stable enough box yet to even test clients. Gcompris looks like an
awesome learning tool and I would hate to give up on the program.
I will try to figure out how to install the new kernel now as
recommended by Della and Chuck.
Thanks

Chuck,
I will finish the tests on the existing hardware and on the new box
just to determine if this is a hardware or a software issue. Right now
I am leaning heavily toward software. If I still determine software I
will try the new kernel. I however have no idea how to exchange kernels
but I do have a linux for dummies book (that is me) and will try the
kernel swap after that.
Thanks
