Dear Folks,
this is the continued saga of an upgrade from hell. K12 v.4,
yesterday I've have started experiencing user logouts. To make things
worse, today i have a number of users that can't log in. The symptom is
that after password is entered and validate, the screen goes black and a
new login screen appears. I did notice that the ~/.gconf directory is
gone, recreating it did not help. I am at a real loss. the system is
very lightly loaded. here is the applicable log trace:
Dec 31 08:16:19 solinden gdm(pam_unix)[32168]: session opened for user
shelli by (uid=0)
Dec 31 08:16:19 solinden gconfd (shelli-32666): starting (version 2.4.0),
pid 32666 user 'shelli'
Dec 31 08:16:19 solinden gconfd (shelli-32666): Resolved address
"xml:readonly:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory" to a read-only config source
at position 0
Dec 31 08:16:19 solinden gconfd (shelli-32666): Resolved address
"xml:readwrite:/home/shelli/.gconf" to a writable config source at
position 1
