it came WITH your computer, that is "purchased" even if the cost was
included in the cost of the computer. assemble a white box computer and
you get no operating system, and if you downloaded windoze you are in deep
trouble!!!

yesterday I spent some time watching in CompUSA, and looking and there was
over 100 liner ft of shelf space with M$ products alone (not for M$ but
from M$) many of them hundreds of dollars, and I saw people buying
them. there was by contrast about 3 ft for Linux and 1 ft for BsD. if
the option to windoze is not readily avaliable to the general public they
are not likely to take the inititive to go get it, Bill Gates is no
dummy. (he may be many things but stupid isn't one of them) he gave away
his software as long as you didn't use anything else...he had the people
who make the corporate decisions hooked, and he knows what most people
hate more than anything else it is "change". Most people don't want a new
OS every 6 months, that's why there are some many folks still using
windoze 98..and why many people are still using RH 7.3 and 8. in fact the
local college teaching linux is using RH8.

sure the folks on the cutting edge like Fedora, I like the concept, BUT
those folks are not the ones spending billions keeping M$ rich and until
those folks start pushing some of the $$$ linux way it will never be more
than a very very small percentage of the market.

seriously how many can say that they have wiped thier own computer hard
drive of all the M$ stuff that came with it, and even occasionally use
it. Now unlike most folks I have made a complete break with M$ and have
been 100% linux for over 3 years now. I'm not sure I would even know how
to run XP (well maybe not that dumb but)
