Greetings fellow list members
Friday late afternoon disasters are perhaps the worse kind - at one
of the schools where I help, while trying to fix a CUPS issue (no
printer is being recognized - zero out of six) I may have created a
disaster. By adding some services (tftp among them) I now have a
system that doesn't allow ANY users to log in... the scrolling text
boot process begins, and when the monitors black out just prior to
the K12LTSP login logo splashing, the monitor makes a crackling sound
and goes blank, and keeps repeating the noice and blank out every few
seconds... scary stuff!
Suggestions as to how to log in perhaps at a lower runlevel, and
suggested fixes are most welcomed. I am looking at the possibility of
having to do a complete re-install, and that doesn't fly well with
the students who have saved work.
BTW, after recovery, if I burn a cd with ALL the home directory
contents, would that be enough to give the students back their saved
files? Opinions welcomed.
Why weekend warrior? This type of disaster destroys my weekend - I am
ready to kill !
Cheers
