Hello Richard.  I'm not sure I'm answering this question right, but you
don't need a backend server like exchange to run Evolution.  Evolution
handles POP and IMAP and others.    Also, if you want exchange
functionality (without partnering with a criminal organization) use
opengroupware.org.  Let me know if you need more info.
