Hi group
What started as an error last Friday (deleting CUPS and trying to
install an upgrade) has taken me from being a warrior to being a
worrier. The server has 7.6 gigs in the /home directories, including
gradebooks from teachers that did not keep backups, and that needed
to be in the office yesterday!
Basically the system is running in low res through the monitor
attached to the server. I was hoping to:
a) copy the contents of some of the /home directories into floppies,
but there's no /mnt/floppy - I could try mkdir /mnt/floppy, but I am
unsure what to mount /dev/? after to activate it
b) format and copy (should (a) not work) a 32MB usb stick - I've used
it with Macs so it needs to be reformated (or not?)
c) after looking at the official LTSP trouble shooting guide (Chapter 6)
I notice that
ps aux | grep dhcpd
gives root 23814 0.0 0.3 1676 820 ? S 15:13 0:00 /usr/sbin/dhcp-eth0
The last entry is strange
iptables -L -v
gives a whole slew of REJECTED policies
and netstat -ap | grep xdmcp
gives NO response whatsoever!
I haven't quite finished all the tests, but the need to have the
workstations "see the server" still remains a high priority.
I had the fortune of catching Eric Harrison on the phone for a few
minutes, and he gave some very sound advice, like Gideon did
yesterday. I have replaced dhcpd.conf with a stock file and
started/restarted many times - to no avail.
Again, if someone has the time, I have the phone. The district blocks
all chat, so that avenue is closed (darn!)
Cheers
