[K12OSN] High school receives honor

My colleague and I are media specialists at a high school in South
Carolina. Last year we became interested in the K12LTSP project and
have been slowly working on getting our own lab started. We have had
tremendous support from our local LUG group and parent volunteers. We
have also had several corporate donations of older pc's. So far we have
8 working terminals--and hope to have a full lab of 30.

We are excited to share news we received over the weekend. We have been
notified we have been selected as two of the fifty "Movers and Shakers"
for the 2003-04 year by Library Journal. The annual awards are given to
"individuals who are shaping the future of libraries and the library
profession." Library Journal will be "sending a copy of Movers & Shakers
to every Senator and Representative in the U.S. Congress." We were
nominated by Dr. Robert Molyneux, a former professor at the College of
Library and Information Science at USC. Only fifty librarians (public,
academic, and school) are selected yearly across the United States.
Library Journal will profile our Linux Lab in the March 15, 2004 issue
(information available online in March as well). Information about our
collaboration with the community and corporate donors and volunteers
will be highlighted. We will also be quoted and have a picture included
in the article.

>From what we can tell, there are few media specialists that are
starting the K12LTSP project...we are trying to get the word out to
others about this wonderful way of incorporating technology into the
schools.
