Thanks for the response but I did a re-install to v3.1.2 . Too many "strange" things were happening with beta13.

And you're right ".....which of course should never happen. :-) Does it "look" normal? " should never happen :-D ..... but may in rare cases. Oh yes both passwd & shadow were unchanged.

Just make sure everyone but root is logged out, and you can safely delete everything in /tmp. As for doing your users over again, that points to something in /etc/passwd and/or /etc/shadow getting corrupted, which of course should never happen. :-) Does it "look" normal?
