We spun this one round-and-round, Paul Nelson ended up creating the
winning choice:
http://filter.mesd.k12.or.us/filter.php
The theory is that the student must have _mistyped_ the URL or search
term, we redirect them to a page full of education-releated links to
help them correct their mistake. This is a much less confrontational
style, we don't want to discourage students who make honest/accidental
mistakes.
Of course everything is logged to the hilt, so it is easy to pick
out the real offenders.
You will also note that there is no contact information on our
block page. That also was at the request of our schools, they want
users to report all problems to the the local teachers/techs (who
are trained on who to contact up-stream). This allows each district
to handle complaints, whether it be missed "bad" sites or censorship
issues, in the way they see fit (including handing it off to the ESD).
