Ok, Assuming you don't want to use email (like a listserv or class
alias) to send or receive the assignments...
"At our school, we have a share that the teacher has full rights to, but
the students only have read to. The teacher places what the students
need
there and the students get it and copy it to their home directory. When
they do this, they maintain rights to modify the file or whatever
because
they own it "
To make this work, I presume that each user belongs to at least 3
groups,
teacher or student, depending on which they are, their class, and their
personal group.
Personal group should be the default group.
So "\\gradex\homework\out" should have permissions rwsr-s--- and be
owned by teacherx:classx.
The student COPIES the file to their home folder. Now they own a copy.
When the homework is done they COPY the completed file, renamed to
student-originalfilename, to the homework in box below.
"\\gradex\homework\in" needs to have permissions rwsrws--t and be owned
by teacherx:classx as well. The create mask for files needs to be 077
to prevent the files from being changed or read by anyone other than
the teacher once they are submitted.
Does anyone see any problems with this setup?
