[K12OSN] new server serial ATA or SCSI - results on new 3ware card

From: Chris Kacoroski <ckacoroski nsd org>

and the results I get with hdparm -tT when run individually are:

/dev/sdb2:
 Timing buffer-cache reads: 2440 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1220 MB/sec
 Timing buffered disk reads: 132 MB in 3.01 seconds = 43.85 MB/sec

My configuration: Intel SRCZCR SCSI ADD-ON RAID controller, 3x Atlas 10K IV/73GB U320 SCSI HDD.

/dev/sda:
Timing buffer-cache reads: 2268 MB in 2.00 seconds = 1133.04 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 110 MB in 3.01 seconds = 36.54 MB/sec

I have 40 powerusers on my LTSP server and I even don't think about using SATA disks.

Despite of better hdparm results SATA drives have one big disadvantage. Think about parallel working on heavy loads.
Yes, with 10-20 concurrent clients SATA is good enough.
